Facts About the Church of Christ (Romans 16:16)

In this article, we will view 7 facts about the church we read about in the New Testament. Please review these facts with your Bible.

FACT 1

IT WAS FOUNDED BY CHRIST: Jesus said He would build His church (Matthew 16:18). His church was established in Jerusalem as recorded in Acts 2.

FACT 2

THE OBEDIENT ARE ADDED TO IT: On the day of Pentecost, Peter preached the Gospel of Jesus Christ and those who obeyed (Acts 2:41 – 47) were added to His church.

FACT 3

CHRIST IS THE HEAD OF THE CHURCH: The Bible teaches that Jesus is the head of the church (Ephesians 1:22 – 23). The church is His spiritual body (Colossians 1:18). The church was purchased with His blood (Acts 20:28).

FACT 4

IT TEACHES SINNERS TO BE SAVED: God has a plan for man’s salvation. If man desires to be saved, he must follow the plan God has provided. Man must believe in Christ (John 20:30 – 31); repent (Acts 17:30); confess Christ (Romans 10:9 – 10; Acts 8:37); be baptized for the forgiveness of their sins (Mark 16:16; Acts 2:38; Galatians 3:26 – 27; I Peter 3:21).

FACT 5

ITS WORSHIP: Consists of singing (Ephesians 5:19); Prayer (Acts 2:42); Teaching God’s word (Colossians 4:16; Acts 20:7); The Lord’s Supper every first day of the week (Acts 20:7); and Giving (I Corinthians 16:1 – 2).

FACT 6

ITS MEMBERS ARE CALLED CHRISTIANS (Acts 11:26). Because the church belongs to Christ, it wears His name. They are not Baptists, Pentecostals, Methodists, Catholics, Calvinists, Presbyterians, or any other denominational name established by man—they are Christians only. Peter said, “there is salvation in no one else; for there is no other name under heaven that has been given among men by which we must be saved” (Acts 4:12).

FACT 7

THOSE IN CHRIST RECEIVE EVERY SPRITUAL BLESSING: Ephesians 1 lists the spiritual blessings found to those in Christ (in His church). Those in Christ:

- Are holy and blameless before God (v.4)

- Are the sons and daughters of adoption (v.5)

- Are lavished with His grace (v.6)

- Have forgiveness through Jesus’ blood (v.7)

- Are an inheritance (v.11)

- Are sealed by the Holy Spirit (v. 13, 14)
