10 Facts Every Christian Should Know

There are 10 facts every Christian should know. These facts will aid us in our understanding of God and what He expects from us as His children:

FACT 1. GOD IS LOVE: Love is a core aspect of God’s character. First John 4:7 – 21 highlights the love of God. His love is unconditional. His love is perfect. “Though we are incomplete, God loves us completely. Though we are imperfect, He loves us perfectly. Though we may feel lost and without a compass, God’s love encompasses us completely.” – Dieter F. Uchtdorf.

FACT 2. GOD IS FORGIVING: God’s forgiveness is a gift. David wrote, “For you, O Lord, are good and forgiving, abounding in steadfast love to all who call upon you” (Psalm 86:5). When we sin as Christians, it’s vital that we confess it to God with a sincere heart (I John 1:9). Our Lord is true to His promise. He will forgive, restore, and cleanse us from all unrighteousness upon us confessing our faults to Him.

FACT 3. GOD IS HOLY: Holy, Holy, Holy. The holiness of God refers to the moral purity of God. His holiness is emphasized throughout scripture. Consider these passages:

  • I Samuel 2:2

  • Psalm 99:5

  • I Peter 1:16

God is holy in nature. His love is holy, His mercy is holy, every aspect of God is holy.

FACT 4. GOD HAS CALLED US TO BE A LIGHT: Matthew 5:14 – 16 should be embedded in the hearts of every Christian. The command is simple, “Let your light shine before men, that they may see your good works and glorify you Father in heaven” (Matthew 5:16). As Christians, our light should be shining at work and at home. Be the light the world needs to see.

FACT 5. GOD HAS CALLED US TO IMITATE HIM: “Be imitators of God, as beloved children; and walk in love, just as Christ also loved you and gave Himself up for us” (Ephesians 5:1). Every Christian should emulate the character of our Lord. God is love. God is forgiving. God is holy. God is Light. As followers of Christ we must imitate THE RIGHTEOUS ONE and develop His way of living, thinking, and being—not the world’s.

FACT 6. GOD HAS PREPARED A PLACE FOR THE FAITHFUL: At the end of our Christian life, we should be able to repeat the words of Paul. “I have fought the good fight, I have finished the course, I have kept the faith; in the future there is reserved for me the crown of righteousness, which the Lord, the righteous Judge, will award to me on that day; and not only to me, but also to all who have loved His appearing” (II Timothy 4:7-8). The Lord will reward the faithful (Revelations 2:10).

FACT 7. THE WORD OF GOD WILL GUIDE US: The word of God provides divine guidance. His word will direct our steps in this life. His word will keep us on the narrow path that leads to life. “Your word is a lamp to my feet and a light to my path” (Psalms 119:105). His word gives instruction on godly decision making, cultivating relationships, how to treat others, and how to be Christlike.

FACT 8. THE WORD OF GOD WILL TRANSFORM US: “Do not be conformed to this world, be transformed by the renewing of your mind, so that you may prove what the will of God is, that which is good and acceptable and perfect” (Romans 12:2). This verse urges Christians to abandon the world’s way of living and thinking for God’s way of being. The NLT reads, “Don’t copy the behavior and customs of this world, but let God transform you into a new person by changing the way you think” (Romans 12:2). As Christians, we must allow God’s word to get ahold of our minds because His word will transform us from the inside out.

FACT 9. THE WORD OF GOD WILL COMFORT US: Are you experiencing hardship right now? If so, God’s word provides hope during life’s trials. Did you know that we can still have joy and hope in the midst of a trial? Life is not easy. Life will have us on a rollercoaster of emotions. But the word of God will comfort us through it all. Four scriptures for hope during hard times:

  • Psalm 23:4, 6

  • Psalm 34:17, 18

  • 2 Corinthians 1:3 – 5

  • I Thessalonians 4:13 – 18

FACT 10. THIS WORLD IS NOT OUR HOME: As Christians, we are strangers in a foreign land. Paul said, “Our citizenship is in heaven, from which we also eagerly wait for a Savior the Lord Jesus Christ” (Philippians 3:20). Every Christian’s heart should be set on going home. At home there will be no tears, no more death, mourning, or pain. As the hymn goes, I can't feel at home in this world anymore.

These 10 facts are simple reminders to help us stay focused on who God is and what He requires of us as His beloved children. I hope and pray that we will never lose sight of the Lord and what He expects from us. When you find yourself becoming distracted with the things of this world, revisit these facts and allow them to minister to you.
